From Coolblue to Royalis
In 1999, Bart Kuijpers became one of the three co-founders of Coolblue. For years he helped build the company, which grew into one of the largest online retailers in the Benelux.
When he wanted to carve out a new path, an idea crept into his conversation with childhood friend, Maurits Roose. What would it be like to build a community of meaningful companies that could create long-term value together? In 2018, that idea formed the basis of Royalis.
Starting off with a fund of approximately 20 million euros, Royalis invested in promising Dutch companies between 2018 and 2024. In 2024, Erik in ‘t Groen (formerly of Rabobank and PwC) joined Royalis, and a second fund was launched with a size of approximately 40 million euros.
With this, Royalis focused on Dutch growth companies who could demonstrate a proven business model and an EBITDA starting at €2 million. Companies that had the potential to grow into the market leaders of tomorrow.
